Marcus Rashford was sent home from Manchester United's training ground on Monday after being assessed by club doctors and found to have a high temperature, reports say.
The 27-year-old forward, who has spent two decades at the club, was following United's policy requiring unwell players to attend Carrington for medical evaluation.
However, in a surprising turn of events, Rashford then appeared the following day at his former primary school - something that will undoubtedly raise more questions about his future.
During the visit, according to the Daily Mail, the United academy graduate handed out 420 presents to pupils at the school where his football journey began.

Rashford also delivered a bombshell revelation to journalist Henry Winter about his future at Old Trafford.
"For me, personally, I'm ready for a new challenge and the next steps," Rashford told Winter amid speculation he could be shown the door in January.
The forward, who has scored 143 goals for United, insisted there would be no ill feelings upon his potential departure.

"When I leave it's going to be no hard feelings. You're not going to have any negative comments from me about Man United," he said.
He affirmed his lasting connection to the club, stating: "That's me. I will always be a Red."
Rashford's revelation came after he was omitted from United's matchday squad for their 2-1 victory over Manchester City.

Manager Ruben Amorim also left out Alejandro Garnacho from the squad for the derby triumph at the Etihad Stadium.
The Portuguese boss later warned both players that he "pays attention to everything", including their choice of clothing and interactions with team-mates.

Amorim's bold decision was vindicated as United secured a dramatic win through goals from Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo.
While the manager insisted neither player was permanently excluded from his plans, Rashford's illness prevented him from training on Monday to prove his worth.
Reports have claimed that Manchester United are prepared to consider offers in the region of £40million for the England international.

Rashford's current contract situation remains strong at Old Trafford, having penned a lucrative £315,000-a-week deal last year.
The forward still has more than three years remaining on his United contract and will be hoping to start Thursday night's Carabao Cup showdown with Tottenham.
