The 27-year-old has joined the club on loan as he looks to summon the magic of old

Marcus Rashford will wear the No 9 shirt for Aston Villa after joining from Manchester United, according to reports.

The 27-year-old touched down at the club on Sunday after being frozen out by Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim.

Villa recently sold Jhon Duran, with the Colombia international joining Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr.

And Rashford will now take his old No 9 shirt, having previously worn the No 10 for United.

The England international was given that shirt number promotion back in 2018 after previously wearing the No 19 shirt.

Before that, upon bursting onto the scene in 2016, he'd started off with the No 39 on his back.

Rashford's move to Villa represents a gamble for the club, who will cover 70 per cent of his £325,000-a-week wages.

They also have the option to buy the attacker permanently at the end of the season for a fee of £40million.

Rashford is looking forward to his new challenge.

Speaking to club media, the winger said: “It’s an ambitious time for this club and a great opportunity for me to join the team and help them keep pushing forward.

"I’m excited, can’t wait for the first training session and obviously the first game.

“(Unai Emery is) a top manager and what he’s done at the club since he’s come to Villa is unbelievable.

“It’s the constant ambition that’s attractive, and it’s why you want to join such a club.

"You want to keep improving year on year, and that’s what the team has been doing and are doing this year."

On his goals for the season, he continued: “It’s a club that’s in a good position in the league, and they’re pushing to get higher.

"Still in the Champions League, a good, ambitious manager and great talent in the squad.

“I’ve had to choose somewhere where I feel my style of football is suited to, and can help them and help me rediscover and improve as a player.

“Obviously it’s only short-term I’m here, so I want to make the most of my time here, and the only way to do that is by using my attributes and my skillset to help the team.”

When it comes to replacements, United would prefer to sign a No 9 on transfer deadline day.

Their dream target is Mathys Tel but negotiations with Bayern Munich have reportedly stalled.
