The England international missed the showdown at Craven Cottage on Sunday night

Marcus Rashford has opted to praise his congratulate his Manchester United team-mates following their 1-0 win over Fulham on Sunday night, despite being ripped apart by Rubey Amorim following the showdown in west London.

The Red Devils secured all three points courtesy of a late deflected strike from Lisandro Martinez.

Rashford, once again, missed the game with the forward still being linked with a move away as the end of the January transfer window creeps closer.

After the match, Amorim was asked about the ongoing absence of the 27-year-old.

He didn't hold back, either, with the former Sporting Lisbon boss suggesting he'd rather play his 63-year-old goalkeeping coach than Rashford instead.

Amorim, in his post-match press conference, stated: "It is always the same reason.

"The reason is the training. The way I see what a footballer should do in training, in life, every day. If things don’t change, I will not change.

"You can see it today on the bench. We needed a little bit of pace to change the game to move some pieces, but I prefer it like that.

"I will put [Jorge] Vital on before I put a player that doesn’t give the maximum. I will not change in that department."

Jorge Vital is United's veteran goalkeeping coach.

Rashford has, however, resisted the chance to bite back at his manager and instead took to Instagram to praise his team-mates on their win.

"Congratulations on the win lads," he wrote.

Rashford has been linked with Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund over the past week or so, with rumours backing him to join Napoli going cold.

Yet with days of the transfer window to go, it's unclear if the England international will be staying or going.

Amorim, when asked if the situation could change, threw down to the gauntlet to Rashford.

"It’s the same situation for every player. If you do the maximum, if you do the right things, we can use every player," he added.

Meanwhile, United weren't at their best with Martinez's goal papering over the cracks in another unconvincing performance.

But the importance of the result wasn't lost on Amorim, who celebrates his 40th birthday today.

"Really important. To have this feeling away from home and great support from our away fans as always," he said.

"Not a great game, you can feel it, there were no great chances in the end with the long balls.
