The Red Devils are looking for a replacement for Erik ten Hag after sacking the Dutchman on Monday

Manchester United have reportedly approached Marco Silva, though Ruben Amorim remains their No 1 target to replace Erik ten Hag.

The Red Devils parted ways with Ten Hag on Monday, with the 54-year-old losing his job less than 24 hours after a chastening defeat to West Ham.

United currently sit 14th in the league table and Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge on an interim basis.

The fallen giants are pursuing Amorim, who has worked wonders over the past four years at Sporting Lisbon.

However, according to journalist Guillem Balague, there's a possibility that the 39-year-old will turn down the Red Devils.

With Pep Guardiola's future at Manchester City shrouded in uncertainty, Amorim may opt to bide his time and wait and see whether the post at the Etihad Stadium becomes available.

And Balague also says United have contacted Fulham boss Silva, too.

"I hear from Portugal a new possibility," he said. "Ruben Amorim might decide to wait for City if Pep leaves.

"Since the first day, I said it was not worthy to ask about it and I am not going to make any comments about my future.”

On whether he's proud of being linked with United, he continued: “I am very proud of being Sporting head coach.”
