Man Utd fans arrested after bare-knuckle brawls with Dutch fans ahead of Manchester derby

Greater Manchester Police conducted the raids after investigating disturbing scenes that unfolded the day before United's match against FC Twente at Old Trafford.

During the operation, officers also uncovered two cannabis farms at properties they searched, leading to the additional arrest of a 36-year-old woman on suspicion of drug cultivation.

The violent clash involved two groups of around 40 balaclava-wearing men who engaged in combat on wasteland in Lower Broughton, Salford.

Sources indicate the brawl was pre-arranged and followed a set of predetermined rules, with no weapons being used.

Frightened witnesses alerted police, but the violence continued later at a Manchester city centre pub.

It is alleged the United supporters followed the Dutch fans and launched another attack, causing terrified bar staff to seek cover.

By the time police arrived at both locations, the perpetrators had fled the scene.

Local residents reported the disturbance, though no serious injuries were recorded.

The ten 'high-risk' supporters arrested in the raids are currently being held for 24 hours while inquiries continue.

Most are expected to be released on bail with strict conditions that will likely prevent them from attending Sunday's derby match.

The operation was carried out by GMP's Specialist Operations branch, with officers conducting searches across the Greater Manchester region.

The investigation into the organised violence remains ongoing, with police sources indicating more arrests could follow.

Recent Home Office figures show Manchester United and Manchester City are tied for second place in football-related arrests this season, with 88 each, behind only West Ham United.

Chief Superintendent Colette Rose issued a stern warning ahead of Sunday's match, stating: "Our proactive and positive action today has been targeted to highlight that organised violence of any kind has no place in Greater Manchester."

"It does not reflect most people who go to events and games without any intention to cause fear or to commit crime," she added.

Rose emphasised that specialised officers would be deployed to ensure safety during the derby.

She urged spectators to report concerns, saying: "You can continue to report your concerns directly to our officers or through 101. Always dial 999 in an emergency."
