The goalkeeper saved one penalty but it wasn't enough as his side crashed to defeat at Wembley

Manchester United duo Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez were unhappy with Andre Onana during their side's Community Shield defeat to Manchester City on Saturday.

The Red Devils thought they'd won the trophy when Alejandro Garnacho broke the deadlock in the 82nd minute.

Yet Bernardo Silva's header just seven minutes later forced penalties, with City going on to win.

Onana saved from Silva, giving United hope of yet another memorable victory over their fiercest rivals - having beaten them in the final of the FA Cup back in May.

However, misses from Jonny Evans and Jadon Sancho cost United - with City able to win the trophy as a result.

Onana did his best to put off City players, with the Cameroon international wildly waving his arms around.

But Casemiro and Martinez shouted at the goalkeeper after he dived too early for one spot-kick, with both players gesturing for the former Inter Milan and Ajax star to calm down.

The pair were also seen waving to the United bench and pointing at Onana, clearly feeling their team-mate wasn't focused enough.

While the Red Devils will be disappointed not to win, they still played well at Wembley.

They will need to improve on this showing if they're to challenge City for title glory, however, with Pep Guardiola's side still level above.

Manuel Akanji netted the winning penalty for City, with the Switzerland international keeping his cool from 12 yards.

Speaking after his team's win, he hailed goalkeeper Ederson - who dispatched a spot-kick of his own, showing nerves of steel in the process.

"I let the others shoot first because obviously when you miss a penalty, you don't go into the next one with that much confidence," he said.

"I told Ederson I would shoot it down the middle in training so I did it and it went in.

"It wasn't easy. We played well, United got a bit better before it went to 1-0. Then it was a great cross from Oscar [Bobb] and Bernardo's header.

"Ederson is probably the best penalty taker in our team, Erling [Haaland] as well.

"When Ederson takes the penalty I know it is a goal."

And City captain Ruben Dias added: "Obviously it feels great to start the season winning. We have lost here in the last three years,

"We're happy to start the season in the way we have and obviously there's a lot to come.

"It's another trophy and we're always happy to collect trophies. We've just had a long season and we still don't have a full squad back but it is very good for us to start this way.
