Ruben Amorim has been confirmed as the next permanent Manchester United head coach.

Manchester United have announced Ruben Amorim as their next head coach after Erik ten Hag was sacked on Monday.

The Dutchman was given the boot following United's dramatic 2-1 loss to West Ham with Ruud van Nistelrooy brought in on an interim basis.

But plans to replace Ten Hag were reportedly put in place a few weeks ago after United's loss to Tottenham.

Talks were reportedly taking place behind the scenes with several candidates looked at.

Amorim quickly emerged as the man United wanted earlier this week and the club have now confirmed an agreement has been reached.

United will pay Sporting Lisbon a £9.2million fee while five members of the Portuguese backroom staff will also be joining him at Old Trafford.

United confirmed that Amorim put pen to paper on a two-and-a-half year deal.

But the head coach won't start until the international break with Van Nistelrooy taking charge of their next three matches.

Their statement read: "Manchester United is delighted to announce the appointment of Ruben Amorim as Head Coach of the men’s first team, subject to work visa requirements.

"He will join until June 2027 with a club option of an additional year, once he has fulfilled his obligations to his current club. He will join Manchester United on Monday 11 November.

"Ruben is one of the most exciting and highly rated young coaches in European football. Highly decorated as both a player and coach, his titles include winning the Primeira Liga twice in Portugal with Sporting CP; the first of which was the club’s first title in 19 years.

"Ruud van Nistelrooy will continue to take charge of the team until Ruben joins."

Van Nistelrooy took charge of his first game as interim manager on Wednesday with United thumping Leicester 5-2 in the Carabao Cup.

He will be back in the dugout this Sunday as United host Chelsea before two more home games against PAOK in the Europa League and Leicester in the Premier League.

Amorim will seemingly remain in charge of Sporting over the same period as they prepare to face Estrela Amadora and Braga in the league with a Champions League clash with Manchester City in between.

The match against City will be Amorim's last match in charge at Sporting's home ground, where he's helped guide them to two Primeira Liga titles.

His first game in charge of United will be away to Ipswich Town in the Premier League on November 24.

Amorim's first home game at Old Trafford will be a few days later on November 28 against Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League before hosting Everton on December 1.
