Manchester United have not had a profitable financial year since 2018.

Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is set to cut up to 200 more jobs at the Premier League club as part of ongoing cost-reduction efforts.

The latest round of redundancies follows the axing of around 250 staff positions last year, which was expected to save the club between £40-45m.

Staff have not yet been formally notified of the new proposals, though insiders anticipate between 100 and 200 positions will be affected.

Manchester United have posted five consecutive years of losses since their last profitable season in 2018/19.

The club recorded a net loss of £113 million in their 2023/24 accounts.

Total losses over the past five years have reached £370 million, prompting Ratcliffe to implement strict financial measures since acquiring his 27.7 per cent stake in the club.

The INEOS billionaire has made clear his intention to restore United to their former glory through changes both on and off the pitch.

Previous cost-cutting measures implemented by Ratcliffe have drawn criticism from fans, media and former players.

The INEOS chief has increased ticket prices at Old Trafford since taking his stake in the club.

He also terminated Sir Alex Ferguson's ambassadorial contract and cancelled the staff Christmas party.

These decisions have been part of a broader strategy to improve the club's financial position and comply with Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules.

A source told The Sun: "Ultimately, football is a business but there are hundreds of people who work tirelessly behind-the-scenes who contribute to any club's success.

"Morale is already on the floor after last year's job losses. This will come as another big blow."

The latest redundancies are expected to affect all areas of the business as the club seeks potential savings.

The redundancies are part of Ratcliffe's strategy to make the business leaner and redirect resources towards the first team squad.
