Manchester City were outclassed by Arsenal in the second half as the Gunners won 5-1.

Manchester City were second best to Arsenal in an embarrassing defeat for Pep Guardiola with their defensive unit once again to blame.

Martin Odegaard opened the scoring after some kamikaze defending inside just two minutes with City all over the place at the back.

Arsenal failed to put away multiple chances to break further ahead and that almost cost them when Erling Haaland equaliser after the break.

But Thomas Partey regained Arsenal's lead with a deflected shot, which appeared to immediately knock City's confidence.

Myles Lewis-Skelly put Arsenal out of sight before Kai Havertz and Ethan Nwaneri rounded things off for the hosts for an important three points in the title race.

Man City player ratings vs Arsenal

Stefan Ortega: 3

Was the catalyst for City's kamikaze defending in the first half and should have been punished by Kai Havertz.

Matheus Nunes: 5

Simply not comfortable at right-back and it showed with Leandro Trossard having a field day against the midfielder.

John Stones: 3

His hospital pass to Manuel Akanji led to Arsenal's opener and he failed to close down Thomas Partey and Myles Lewis-Skelly for their goals in a shaky looking defensive unit.

Manuel Akanji: 4

Offered little protection alongside John Stones. Easily beaten on too many occasions.

Josko Gvardiol: 6

City's best defender but largely due to his influence going forward.

Bernardo Silva: 6

Went missing at crucial parts of the game. Pep Guardiola will want more from his main man.

Mateo Kovacic: 6

Looked lost at times without doing enough in the final third either.

Phil Foden: 6

Showed some promising signs as City got back level at 1-1 but struggled to create opportunities.

Savinho: 7

City's biggest threat by far and provided a brilliant assist for Haaland.

Omar Marmoush: 5

City's new signing struggled to make an impact. A tough baptism of fire for the Egyptian.

Erling Haaland: 7

Was quiet for most of the game but came up big for the equaliser. Was let down by his side's woeful defending once again.

Subs:

James McAtee: 6

A lot for the inexperienced midfielder to try and do with Arsenal already 3-1 ahead.

Kevin De Bruyne: 6

Similar to McAtee, game was already over by the time he was brought on.
