They said: "Manchester City are aware of the tragic news that one of our supporters passed away following a medical incident at yesterday's match.
"The thoughts of everyone at the Club are with their family and friends at this incredibly difficult time."
Fans on social media have mourned the sad news, with one saying: "Oh no! Thoughts and prayers with their family and friends! RIP!"
A second said: "Heartfelt condolences to the family of the departed."
Another wrote: "I'm so sorry to hear about this. My thoughts with the family and the entire club. May the soul of the departed rest in peace."
A fourth wrote: "Man we lost big time. This is the saddest part. RIP to the lost soul."
And former Premier League rivals Luton Town said: "We send our condolences to their family, friends and all at Manchester City at this time."
The tragic news was confirmed after City's derby day defeat, with Pep Guardiola's side currently on a run of just one win from their last 11 matches across all competitions.
That was something that seemed unfeasible just months ago.
City took the lead against United in the 36th minute, with Josko Gvardiol opening the scoring with an impressive header.
United levelled towards the end of the 90 minutes, however, with Fernandes converting following a penalty from Fernandes.
Amad then struck in the 90th minute to give Ruben Amorim's side all three points, having lobbed the ball over Ederson before expertly finishing.

City's next match is a tough Premier League showdown with Aston Villa on Sunday.
They lost 1-0 in the same fixture last December, with Leon Bailey netting the only goal of the game.
As for United, they're set to face Tottenham in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup on Thursday.
The Red Devils will be hoping to win the competition, having previously secured the prize under Erik ten Hag back in 2022.
