The Prime Minister's boyhood club Arsenal were pipped to the Premier League title by Arne Slot's side

Sir Keir Stamer has congratulated Liverpool FC after the Reds secured their 20th league title.

Speaking to GB News Political Editor Christopher Hope on Monday, the lifelong Gooner sent his best wishes to Liverpool "even as an Arsenal fan".


Responding to Chris, Starmer said: "I will congratulate Liverpool. Even as an Arsenal fan, I have to say Liverpool had a fantastic season.

"Congratulations to Liverpool - it was really good as last time they won they were not able to celebrate because of Covid."

The Prime Minister could not resist taking a dig at Arsenal's north London rivals.

He added: "And so I can understand what an incredible day yesterday was - and of course who were they playing? Tottenham."

Arne Slot's side secured the Premier League title at Anfield yesterday after putting five goals past league stragglers Tottenham Hotspur.

Left-wing Labour MP Zarah Sultana also shared snaps from outside Anfield, adding: "Liverpool FC, writing history once again."

However, Sunday's result might have been a bittersweet moment for Foreign Secretary David Lammy after Spurs slumped to their 19th league defeat of the season.
