Lionel Messi has sent fans into a frenzy by showing off a new hairstyle during Inter Miami's 2-1 victory over Philadelphia Union on Saturday night.

The Argentina international scored his side's second goal of the game as they kept their place at the top of the MLS table.

Messi netted in the 57th minute following Robert Taylor's opener, with Daniel Gazdag then netting a late consolation for the visitors.

But it wasn't just his footballing exploits that sent X into overdrive, with Messi also sporting a new look.

The 37-year-old's hair was slicked back, making him look like something from a 1990s gangsters film.

Certainly, Messi looked more like he'd fit in alongside Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta and Joe Pesci in Goodfellas than his usual self.

And fans on social media have now provided their verdict, with many having positive things to say.

"His new barber is a magician. He’s doing well," were the words of one supporter.

A second wrote: "Bro is just enjoying his prime."

Another opined: "He gets a new haircut every other week I guess. The previous was the best though."

And a fourth stated: "I love that Messi new hairstyle."

Not everybody was impressed, however, with a few other supporters expressing a belief his new look doesn't suit him.

One called on Messi's wife, Antonella, to 'please keep your shampoos and gels away from Leo."

Another then compared him to Aston Villa boss Unai Emery, writing: "Messi be looking like Unai Emery now."

Meanwhile, as they both enter the twilight years of their respective careers, the GOAT debate involving Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo continues to rumble on.

Messi achieved what his nemesis never could in 2022 when he propelled Argentina to World Cup glory.

LATEST SPORTS NEWS:

However, former Manchester United star Patrice Evra, who played alongside Ronaldo at Old Trafford, has now sensationally claimed that Messi was GIVEN the prestigious prize.

Discussing France, at a time when Zinedine Zidane is being linked with the job, Evra said: "There's a World Cup to prepare for.

"I don't think it disturbs the group; players must focus on the present, but we can't talk about Zidane in every interview... we should talk about Didier Deschamps.

"Are people tired of reaching semi-finals or finals at every tournament?

"I feel sorry for his successor. Do you prefer winning or playing beautifully?

"Okay, we haven't won since 2018, but we all know that in 2022, they gave the World Cup to Messi...

"Everything was already written. Even the French wanted Messi to win it... the penalty at the start [of the final]... personally, I say good luck to Deschamps' successor.

"When I hear people say, 'just another year and a half to hold on', for me, it's disrespectful."
