Barcelona beat Benfica 3-1 to secure a aggregate 4-1 victory over the Portuguese club in the Champions League

Barcelona cruised into the Champions League quarter-finals with an impressive 3-1 victory over Benfica on Tuesday night.

The Spanish giants secured a commanding 4-1 aggregate win after their 1-0 first-leg triumph in Lisbon last week.

Teenage sensation Lamine Yamal and Brazilian forward Raphinha played starring roles in a dominant display at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.

Barcelona have now extended their unbeaten run to 17 competitive matches in 2025.

Lamine Yamal created Champions League history with a magical performance that belied his tender age.

The 17-year-old Spain starlet became the youngest player ever to both score and assist in a Champions League match, achieving the feat at just 17 years and 241 days.

Yamal was virtually unplayable down the right channel, creating most of Barcelona's scoring chances.

Raphinha's brace against Benfica took his Champions League tally to 11 goals this season, making him the first Brazilian to reach this milestone in a single campaign.

The forward now tops the Champions League scoring chart for the 2024-25 season.

His clinical finishing helped Barcelona establish their dominance in the tie before half-time.

Raphinha's overall tally has reached an impressive 27 competitive goals this season, cementing his status as a key player in Hansi Flick's side.

Barcelona took the lead after just 11 minutes when Raphinha poked home from close range following Yamal's brilliant solo run.

Nicolas Otamendi equalised for Benfica two minutes later with a header from a corner.

Yamal restored Barcelona's advantage in the 27th minute with a stunning curling effort from outside the area that left goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin helpless.

Raphinha then added his second in the 42nd minute from a quick counter-attack, with VAR confirming the goal after an initial offside call.

Barcelona dominated possession with 65% compared to Benfica's 35%, outshooting their opponents 20-8 with six on target.

Despite Benfica's Fredrik Aursnes having a goal disallowed for offside in the second half, the Portuguese side never threatened a comeback.

Barcelona will now await their quarter-final opponents, which will be either French side Lille or last season's Champions League runners-up Borussia Dortmund.

The Catalan giants now turn their attention to Sunday's crucial La Liga clash against title rivals Atletico Madrid.
