Jurgen Klopp will bring his nine-year reign at Liverpool to an end after their final game of the season against Wolves.

Jurgen Klopp has revealed he 'apologised' to his Liverpool players for being the centre of attention in their final game of the season before making one final request.

The German coach announced back in January that he would be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.

It put plenty of focus on Liverpool's final game of the season at home to Wolves with Anfield set to create a special atmosphere for the 56-year-old.

Up until just a few weeks ago, Liverpool were in contention to win the Premier League title.

But a run of poor results saw Liverpool fall away from both Arsenal and Manchester City with nothing left to play for in the final game of the season.

Klopp still wants to see his side put on a show at Anfield, but he also felt obliged to apologise to his players as he was set to take centre stage.

"I hope we can put on a performance," he said.

"I apologised to the boys that the (build-up) is all about me.

"I told them that over the last few years that we created a football style and that it would be really cool if they could show that today.

"People say it's the 'Last Dance' or whatever... so let's dance!"

The streets around Anfield were packed with thousands of Liverpool supporters ahead of kick-off to welcome the team bus into the stadium.

It was a sea of red as Klopp's name was sung aloud and he was beaming from ear to ear as he took in the atmosphere around Anfield.

Klopp wrote a touching open letter to Liverpool fans before the match against Wolves.

It read: "There is so much I could say right now and there are so many special moments I could talk about. On and off the pitch we have created memories between us that will live with me for ever.

"But when I think of this city and its wonderful people, the biggest lesson I will take with me is that giving up is definitely not in the Scouse dictionary.

"If you are from here, the chances are that you are not just ready to fight, you actually want to fight. Not only that, the way you stand together, in all kinds of circumstances, means that even when the odds are against you it is still possible to win.

"I love this more than I could ever say.

"This is why one of my proudest moments was being given the freedom of Liverpool. To receive that honour on a night when the leaders of the city spoke of me, a boy from the Black Forest, as if I was one of their own is one of the greatest privileges of my life."
