The Real Madrid star was forced to miss clashes against the Republic of Ireland and Finland due to injury

Lee Carsley has kept Jude Bellingham in the loop after the England midfielder was forced to miss the first two matches of his tenure, according to reports.

The Three Lions recently beat both Ireland and Finland in the Nations League as they look to win the competition for the first time.

Bellingham is England's poster boy, especially given his heroics at the recent European Championships.

The Real Madrid star was, however, forced to miss both matches due to injury - having been sidelined with a muscular problem.

According to the Daily Mail, however, Carsley has sent messages to Bellingham keeping him in the loop as he looks to land the England job on a permanent basis.

The 50-year-old has also opted to stick with the same leadership group that was put in place during Gareth Southgate's stint in charge.

That means Harry Kane as captain, with Declan Rice, Kyle Walker and Bellingham also among the senior stars.

Discussing that decision, Carsley said: "I don't think it's for me to change the leadership group.

"That was in place before I got here."

When Carsley first addressed his England squad, players reportedly detected some 'nervousness' from the 50-year-old.

After all, senior players such as Kane, Harry Maguire, John Stones and Jordan Pickford have been so accustomed to seeing Southgate addressing them at St George's Park.

An insider says, however, that England players were 'fine' with how he conducted himself and understood the situation.

"Lee certainly doesn’t have Gareth’s natural air when it comes to public speaking," they said.

"He did seem a bit nervous, but why wouldn’t he? There is a lot of serious talent in that room.

"The players were fine with it. It was just a change, that’s all.

"It takes all sorts."

Under Southgate, England were often conservative.

That was certainly the case at Euro 2024, with the Three Lions placing emphasis on keeping opponents out - rather than scoring goals galore themselves.

Things seem to be different now, though.

Carsley reportedly told his players that he wants them to play on the front foot. He also wants them to 'impose themselves on the best teams in the world' as they look to finally win a first major trophy since the 1966 World Cup.

It is still unclear whether he'll be given the keys to Wembley on a permanent basis, however.

The FA have several other candidates under consideration - and who they eventually go with remains to be seen.
