Dwight Yorke believes Jude Bellingham won't win the Ballon d'Or this year following England's defeat to Spain in the final of Euro 2024 earlier this month.

The 21-year-old showed glimpses of his best form throughout the tournament, scoring big goals in victories over Serbia and Slovakia.

However, Bellingham was inconsistent during the competition and looked a shadow of the player that flourished for Real Madrid last season.

He struggled during the 2-1 defeat to Spain on July 14, with La Roja winning Euro 2024 courtesy of goals from Nico Williams and Mikel Oyarzabal.

The Ballon d'Or is given to the best footballer every year but Yorke, speaking to BoyleSports, who offer the latest Premier League Betting, thinks Bellingham is now out of contention to secure the prestigious prize.

"Jude Bellingham will be thinking it was a great opportunity to win the Ballon d’Or that he has missed out on," said the former Manchester United and Aston Villa star.

"Having said that, you still can't take away the fact that he's coming off such a huge success being voted the player of year in Spain.

"With the goals he has scored he has turned into a top class player and he still has a lot to do, but he would’ve looked at it and thought he had a great chance to be Ballon d'Or before the Euros.

"Can he now drive on to become even better? He would have learned from the things that didn't particularly go great for England in that set up as a player and as a person.

"It’s an opportunity missed, but he's still got a lot of time in front of him to then claim the Ballon d’Or, but it was a huge chance for him to do it at such a young age."

England are currently on the lookout for a new manager.

Gareth Southgate resigned last week, with the 53-year-old saying it was the right time for a 'new chapter'.

Yorke thinks the FA won't go down the foreign route when it comes to a potential successor - and instead sees Lee Carsley being given the keys to Wembley, albeit on an interim basis at first.

"I think the FA want to showcase that England has got a quality level of managers and I think that they want us to probably ideally go with an English manager," he added.

"They will have a hard time picking the manager, but I think they will go for Lee Carsley as a first option for the next few games just to see how he gets on.

"I think then the season will start and then things will take shape, if things don’t go to plan at Newcastle for Eddie Howe then he might end up with England.

"Of course you've got Graham Potter who's been out of work but is another option, then an outside chance of someone like Frank Lampard, those are the three English candidates.

"I think they will just go for the interim manager with Carlsey for a few games in September and see how that goes.

"If he gets a really good response then he could be installed as the full-time manager.

"If that doesn't go to plan, Eddie Howe, Graham Potter and Frank Lampard come into the frame."
