Jose Mourinho has never been short of self-confidence throughout his managerial career.

Jose Mourinho became famous for his 'Special One' remark when first in charge at Chelsea and he may have just produced another classic one-liner in his latest press conference at Fenerbahce.

The Portuguese coach took charge of Fenerbahce at the end of last season having been axed by Roma earlier this year.

He was mobbed by thousands of excited Fenerbahce fans during his unveiling at a packed Sukru Saracoglu Stadium in Istanbul.

Mourinho had enjoyed a strong start to life in Turkey with four wins from their opening five Super Lig matches before suffering a disastrous defeat to arch-rivals Galatasaray last week.

The loss leaves Fenerbahce five points behind their rivals after six games - a potentially significant gap given Galatasaray dropped just 12 points last season.

Mourinho was able to bounce back on Thursday night as Fenerbahce kicked off their Europa League campaign with a 2-1 win over Union Saint-Gilloise.

They were far from convincing in the match, however, and Mourinho faced some tough questions in the post-match press conference.

But Mourinho hit back at his critics by pointing to his impressive trophy record throughout his managerial career.

"What is called the 'Mourinho effect' are trophies, cups," Mourinho said.

"You cannot win trophies in September.

"There are no trophies to win in September. How can you see the effect?

"In every club where I've been, I've won cups.

"Only Tottenham, I left the club two days before a cup final.

"But in every club, the effect was titles. I cannot win titles in September. I'm sorry."

Fenerbahce's match against Union Saint-Gilloise on Thursday also marked a historic evening for Mourinho.
