The Fenerbahce boss will face Manchester United on Thursday night

Jose Mourinho, the former Manchester United manager, has playfully suggested he could still win the 2017/18 Premier League title with the club if Manchester City face punishment for alleged financial breaches.

The Portuguese coach, now at Fenerbahce, made the cheeky claim ahead of his current side's Europa League clash with United.

"I think we still have a chance to win that league because maybe they punish Man City with points," Mourinho quipped.

"Maybe we win that league and then they have to pay me the bonus and give me the medal!"

Mourinho's comments refer to his time at Manchester United from 2016 to 2018.

During his tenure, he led the club to Europa League and League Cup victories in his first season.

In the 2017-18 campaign, United finished second in the Premier League, 19 points behind Pep Guardiola's Manchester City.

The Portuguese manager later claimed that guiding United to second place was "one of the best jobs of my career" due to behind-the-scenes challenges.

His remarks come as City face a hearing into over 100 alleged breaches of Premier League financial rules, spanning a nine-year period that includes Mourinho's time at United.
