The Manchester United icon was recently called out on American TV by a fellow pundit

Jamie Carragher has taken a swipe at his Sky Sports colleague Gary Neville after the former Manchester United defender was "embarrassed" on American television.

Neville faced criticism from NBC Sports pundit Robbie Mustoe during Arsenal's recent 1-1 draw with Brentford.

The incident occurred when Neville claimed Arsenal had "gone backwards" this season, a view that Mustoe strongly challenged.

Carragher has since gleefully mocked his co-pundit, claiming Neville was "absolutely battered" during the exchange.

The exchange took place after Arsenal's 1-1 draw with Brentford, which left Arteta's side 13 points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool.

Neville had suggested Arsenal had regressed this season, particularly in their recruitment.

Mustoe firmly disagreed, stating: "I wouldn't agree that they have regressed. (Arteta) is getting closer, it was just a difficult season with injuries."

The rebuttal from Mustoe prompted an online backlash against Neville from fans who appreciated the NBC pundit's defence of Arsenal.

Carragher didn't hold back when discussing the incident on "It's Called Soccer", a show he co-hosts with Neville, who was absent.

"Has Gary recovered? I mean, he got absolutely battered by Robbie Mustoe. He absolutely destroyed him on air! I didn't know if we'd even want him back on Sky," Carragher said.

He continued: "He's gone over there and absolutely embarrassed us. He got schooled! I was loving it. He's gone over there to crack America and he can't even crack Robbie Mustoe."

The comments left Carragher and co-host Rebecca Lowe in stitches.

Neville's original comments on NBC Sports were quite critical of Arsenal's season.

"What's happened this season is I think they've gone backwards from the start of the season in terms of their recruitment," Neville argued.

He specifically mentioned Arsenal's failure to provide cover for Kai Havertz, their "only centre-forward".

Neville also criticised captain Martin Odegaard for having a "big drop-off" throughout the 2024-25 campaign.

He went further by claiming Arsenal have "the worst attacking squad out of the top six."

LATEST SPORTS NEWS:

Arsenal have been hampered by injuries to key attacking players throughout the season.

Odegaard, Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus have all spent extended periods on the sidelines.

Despite their Premier League struggles, HOWEVER, Arsenal have enjoyed remarkable success in Europe.

The Gunners recently qualified for the Champions League semi-finals after an impressive 4-1 aggregate victory over Real Madrid in the quarter-finals.

While Liverpool appear set to claim the Premier League title, Arteta's side still have European glory to fight for.

Even Neville acknowledged that European success could redeem Arsenal's domestic disappointments.

"If they win the Champions League all will be forgiven but otherwise their league performances have been a big let-down," he admitted.
