The Three Lions captain has spoken out ahead of the contest at Wembley

Harry Kane has backed Thomas Tuchel's decision to recall Jordan Henderson ahead of England's World Cup qualifier against Albania on Friday night.

Henderson, 34, has been recalled to the side amid his impressive form for Ajax in the Netherlands.

However, some fans have vented their fury at the call given he's been playing outside of the Premier League for nearly 18 months.

Liverpool offloaded Henderson because they felt he was on the wane but the midfielder has already earned Tuchel's trust.

Kane, reacting to his manager's bold call, made it clear he felt Henderson's selection was warranted and justified due to the experience he possesses.

"I think it's great. In any squad, you need good leadership, and you need different leadership," he said.

"I spoke before of how important Jordan [Henderson] had been in other tournaments. We complement each other really well in leadership roles.

"We are totally different types of leaders but we both have an impact on how we do it. It's great to have him."

England, under Southgate, were accused of being too pragmatic.

With Tuchel now calling the shots, however, Kane believes the 51-year-old will aim to dominate matches rather than relying on the counter-attack.

"We spoke a lot about the counter-press when we lose the ball, especially attacking players having the responsibility to try and win it back as quick as we can," he said.

"I think we will build up and to try and play out and to try and have a lot of the ball, lot of possession and ultimately to create a lot of chances.

"We have the team to do that, we have a lot of players in good form, we have a lot of young players that bring a lot of energy to the team.

"And tomorrow night it will be down to us to do that - to excite the Wembley crowd. It will be a tough game."

As for Tuchel, the former Chelsea boss was asked why England haven't won a major trophy since the 1966 World Cup.

They made two finals during Gareth Southgate's time in the dugout, falling short against Italy and Spain in 2021 and 2024 respectively.

He continued: "I heard this a lot about the shirt, that it is a heavy shirt but it's not.

"It is a high quality shirt and it will weigh less when we come to America because they already work on a shirt that adapts to the climate there. The shirt is not heavy in reality.

"Of course I know what the players mean. Maybe it is another way to put it what I felt watching the Euros, I felt tension and pressure on the shoulders of the players and it felt to me like they were more afraid not to lose and have even more pressure added in their home country. Rather than the excitement to make something special happen.

"I think we need to turn this around because we have so many experienced players and players who have won trophies with their clubs.

"I think we have every right to be self confident but every journey starts with the first match and first steps.

"The very first steps we did excellent and now we have to prove the point that we are ready for that. We will have six camps to qualify and then make our very best in America."
