Lineker, however, has now told the BBC that he's banning the words 'it's coming home' - insisting it's brought nothing but 'bad luck for so long'.
"I'm banning that statement," he said.
"It's been bad luck for so long."
Lineker has been critical of England over the course of the tournament, even dubbing them 's**t' after the 1-1 draw with Denmark on matchday two.

But he's now lavished praise on Gareth Southgate's side and their 'never-say-die atittude'.
England have trailed in matches against Slovakia, Switzerland and the Netherlands.
But they've come back to win all three, despite not always looking convincing along the way.
Lineker added: "They have got that kind of never-say-die attitude, which is something that is hugely important.
"Even when they weren't playing great, they were grinding out results.

"And it's an old football cliche that if you can win when you play badly, then things are not that bad."
England haven't won a major trophy since the World Cup back in 1966.
They came agonisingly close to securing Euro 2020 glory three years ago, only to lose to Italy on penalties.
And Lineker believes England winning Euro 2024, and ending 58 years of hurt in the process, would be a 'hugely significant' moment in the country's history.

"I think it's hugely significant for English football," said the BBC presenter.
"They were in a final, they were in the last final of the Euros, of course, and that was at Wembley, and that ended up in huge disappointment [losing to Italy on penalties].
"This is going to be tough, it's going to be difficult, but they're on the brink of history.

On how England have got to the final, he added: "I don't really think I'm surprised at how we have done it, because we've got the individuals, world-class footballers right across the pitch.
"Yes, they started slowly and something wasn't quite right about things but they've worked it out and they've got gradually better as the tournament progressed. It's much better that way round."
