The 63-year-old has opened up on Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag

Gary Lineker thinks Erik ten Hag is likely to be sacked by Manchester United in the wake of the club's awful 3-0 Premier League defeat to Tottenham on Sunday.

The Red Devils were played off the park by Ange Postecoglou's side, with Brennan Johnson, Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke all on target.

United opted to keep Ten Hag back in the summer after he steered the club to FA Cup glory.

Yet with the fallen giants picking up just seven Premier League points so far, pressure is mounting on the 54-year-old.

Lineker, speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, has admitted he can't see a way back for Ten Hag over at Old Trafford.

And he was also critical of their performance against Tottenham, saying they were 'found wanting in every department'.

He said: "Blimey, more pain for Manchester United fans.

"How many times have we said what is their plan, what is their way of playing? They were found wanting in every department.

"It’s hard to see him actually turning this around now isn’t it?

"He must be under terrible pressure. Who knows what the owners think, you never really know.

"We will see what happens in the next few days because there’s going to be some fallout from that particular performance."

Alan Shearer also spoke on the podcast.

The former Newcastle, Southampton and Blackburn star said United players looked like 'lost souls' as they lost their third league match of the season.

And he also dubbed the Red Devils 'shambolic and awful' while expressing a belief they were lucky to lose by a three-goal margin, instead of by more.

"Spurs were by miles the better team," he said. "They were up for it more than Man United were.

"They started really well, were the better team, and I thought Man United were shambolic, awful, and lucky to get away with three.

"What are they? Can anyone tell me: what are Man United? What is their system, what is their plan? Do they sit? Do they attack? Do they press?

"I haven't got a clue what they are. They're a mess."

Micah Richards then interjected to say United were 'inconistent'. Shearer, however, felt that was a big understatement.

"Inconsistent? They're 12th in the league. That means they're not inconsistent - that means they're b****y awful," he added.

"The players have to take responsibility. They can't hide behind the manager. The manager takes all the flak every single week when a result goes against them. There's players out there where you say, 'come on, is that the best you can give?'

"But on the other hand, when you look at what they gave in the cup final and what went on in the summer with them interviewing other managers, they've left him in an impossible position.

"As soon as it came out that they were speaking to other managers last year, they did not help him at all. It was virtually going to be impossible for him.

"They've won the Carabao and the FA Cup, but in terms of being a force in the league, they're miles off. They're miles away. They've got no identity."
