Gary Lineker makes apology decision after brutal Frank Lampard dig at Euro 2024
BBC
The BBC presenter has addressed the viral moment after suffering a backlash on social media
Gary Lineker has revealed he will apologise to Frank Lampard after mocking the Chelsea icon's hair on Wednesday.
Both men, along with Alex Scott and Brentford boss Thomas Frank, featured on the BBC's coverage of Germany's 2-0 Euro 2024 win over Hungary.
Goals from Jamal Musiala and Ilkay Gundogan sent the hosts through to the round of 16, with Julian Nagelsmann's side hoping to win a first major trophy in a decade.
Before the game, however, Lineker sparked controversy by appearing to mock Lampard's hair.

Lampard suggested taking down a big screen that separates them from supporters, saying: “The Brandenburg Gate there, we should take that screen down and see all the punters.
"But if they took the screen down they wouldn’t be able to watch the game."
He added: "They'd see my head! They wouldn't turn up for that."
Lineker then joked: “No you’re right, nobody wants to see the back of your head these days! That’s for sure.”
Lampard appeared stunned by the quip, with a body language expert claiming he was in 'anger and disbelief'.

Yet while Lineker insists he didn't mean to cause any offence, he's now vowed to apologise.
“Obviously Frank’s slightly thinning, I’m slightly thinning, and I actually meant it about everyone," he told The Rest is Football podcast.
"But when it came out, it came out a bit wrong.
"And you know Frank does that thing where he smiles, and then he suddenly doesn’t smile?

“Frank’s great fun, he won’t mind. I must admit, when I got back to the hotel I saw it on social media and thought, ‘Oh you f*****g idiot.’
"I felt really bad, I’ll have to apologise.
"I will apologise because it wasn’t deliberate but I get how funny it was. Those things happen on live TV.”
It is the third scandal involving Lineker at the European Championships this summer.

The 63-year-old appeared to flout BBC guidelines on clothing while covering England's 1-0 win over Serbia on Sunday night.
BBC rules state that presenters are prohibited from wearing items they promote.
But Lineker appeared to be wearing attire identical to his Next clothing range.
Reports have even suggested staff at the BBC are unhappy with the presenter and feel the broadcaster 'turns a blind eye' when it comes to him.

Lineker has also been criticised after making a joke about Scotland boss Steve Clarke earlier this week.
He sarcastically suggested the 60-year-old was full of enthusiasm as he spoke prior to his side's 1-1 draw with Switzerland.
However, it appears Clarke won't be getting any apology from the Match of the Day icon.
