The Three Lions boss has been criticised ahead of Tuesday's clash with Slovenia on Tuesday

Angry England fans have blasted Gareth Southgate after it emerged Luke Shaw was still yet to train with the rest of the squad ahead of their Euro 2024 clash with Slovenia on Tuesday.

The Manchester United star hasn't played for either club or country since a narrow 2-1 win over Luton back in February.

Shaw was still taken to the Euros by Southgate, with Kieran Trippier filling in at left-back for group stage games with Serbia and Denmark so far.

Earlier on Saturday, it emerged the 28-year-old was still training by himself - with Sky Sports saying there's even a possibility England could release a statement confirming they've sent him home in the near future.

Shaw is likely to be out of action for the Three Lions' upcoming game with Slovenia, while his involvement in the rest of the competition hangs in the balance.

And fans have blasted Southgate on social media for picking the former Southampton star when he's clearly still struggling with injury.

"Shaw being in the squad knowing he’s injured is an embarrassment & disgraceful. Zero responsibility!" said one X user.

A second raged: "Gareth Southgate should be fired as England manager for his decision to include Luke Shaw in the squad while injured."

A third vented: "Taking Luke Shaw to the Euros was one of a few baffling decisions Southgate’s made."

Another opined: "Southgate should be sacked purely on taking an injured Luke Shaw who won't even play a second."

A fourth said: "Another Southgate shambles, only taking Luke Shaw and he's nowhere near fit enough."

And a fifth said: "Luke Shaw should never have been called up in the first place never played since February injured when selected for England, prime example of Southgate not having a clue."

Shaw has been a key player for England in previous tournaments.

He was particularly impressive at Euro 2020, with the Three Lions star scoring in the final as they lost on penalties to Italy.

Picking him when he's fit was a risk, however, and one that could backfire.

Southgate previously said there was room for just one gamble, with Harry Maguire left at home.

Though Trippier has done well enough for England at left-back, it's clear they're missing a natural in that position as they look to go all the way.

Bukayo Saka can play in that position but, with the Arsenal star now an established threat on the right wing, tinkering would risk blunting his attacking edge.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has played in midfield but could be set for a position change, with Liverpool team-mate Joe Gomez in contention.

And another option would be moving Kyle Walker to left-back and using Alexander-Arnold on the right instead.

Southgate, meanwhile, has said his England players are struggling for fitness amid criticism over their pressing.

“We are not pressing well enough, with enough intensity,” Southgate said.

“We have limitations in how we can do that with the physical condition.

"We can’t press as high up the pitch as we might have done in the qualifiers, for example.

"And we are not keeping the ball well enough. We have to keep the ball better and build with more control.”

England face Slovenia on Tuesday with four points in the bag already.

They're virtually assured to be playing knockout football, but a point is needed to officially confirm their involvement in the next round of the competition.
