The Three Lions won 3-1 on Sunday night with Jack Grealish, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Declan Rice on target

Gabby Logan has hailed Lee Carsley, despite the England interim boss hinting he wasn't keen on landing the job full time following their 3-1 win over Finland on Sunday night.

The Three Lions went into the showdown looking to bounce back after a shock 2-1 defeat to Greece at Wembley last week.

And though England weren't always convincing they got the job done against Finland, with Jack Grealish, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Declan Rice all finding the net.

Speaking after the game, Carsley hinted that he didn't see himself as the man to lead the team on a permanent basis.

"This job deserves a world class coach who has won trophies and I am still on the path to that," he told ITV.

Some have criticised Carsley, suggesting that he lacks the bravery required for such a huge role.

But Logan, writing on her Instagram, has now launched a staunch defeat of the 50-year-old.

"Rare to find this level of self awareness," she wrote. "I was going to say in sport, but quite frankly anywhere in the upper echelons of any industry."

Just a month ago, the job seemed like Carsley's to lose.

After England beat the Republic of Ireland and Finland in September, many were lavishing praise on the former Everton midfielder.

Yet his popularity dwindled after the 2-1 defeat to Greece on Thursday, with the Three Lions abject in every department as they were put to the sword.

Though England beat Finland on Sunday, their performance still left much to be desired.

When it comes to other candidates for the England job, the FA continue to dream of appointing Pep Guardiola.

The Spaniard's contract at Manchester City is due to expire at the end of the season and, with no renewal signed or agreed, could be set to become a free agent.

Eddie Howe has been linked, having worked wonders at Newcastle over the past few years.

And Thomas Tuchel is another name in the frame, with the former Chelsea boss on the market following his departure from Bayern Munich earlier this summer.

Meanwhile, speaking after the win in Helsinki, Carsley praised his England players for their performance.

“We were looking for a reaction, it's a big thing,” he said.

“We're three or four games into it so it's still not quite worked out how the team responds to setbacks.

“But I think they've responded really well in the best way and scored three good goals, a bit disappointed to concede that one at the end but I thought we were a lot better tonight.

“We played with a lot more control. Looking at the data we've got, we had massive possession, lots of passes, created a lot of chances but I think we could still be better.”

He continued: “They were very well organised, five at the back and not a lot of space, so we had to wait and create that space.

"When you have as much possession as we do you're always going to create chances from 70 minutes onwards, so it was good that the subs that came on made such an impact which was pleasing.”
