Charlotte FC have set some bizarre requirements in their manager’s ‘contract’ after choosing Dean Smith over Frank Lampard.

Frank Lampard has been overlooked by MLS side Charlotte FC in favour of Dean Smith with his new ‘contract’ going viral for some unique clauses.

Lampard has been out of work since his short interim role in charge of Chelsea at the end of last season and was in the running to head Stateside to take over at Charlotte FC.

But the American outfit have ended up choosing Smith, who was dismissed by Leicester City just six months ago.

Charlotte FC confirmed the news on social media as they posted three photos of Smith as their new head coach.

But it was the contract signing picture that grabbed the attention on social media.

From afar, everything looks like any other contract signing picture.

But zooming in on the picture offered a very different result with the contact header titled ‘Charlotte FC Very Official Head Coach Contract’.

The document reads like an unofficial contract, creatively put together by Charlotte FC's content team.

The fake contract included several bullet points that would not have been necessary in an official document.

And it also included two unusual requirements of the job for Smith relating to the club's social media activity and the mascot, Sir Minty.

The first read: "Sir Minty is allowed to have a recurring weekly meeting with you."

The other lighthearted point read: "You agree to one TikTok a month as deemed necessary by the social team. (Not really, it's fine)."

Smith's appointment in North Carolina is the 52-year-old's first managerial post outside of English football.

And he's excited about the prospect of managing in the MLS with Charlotte FC still relatively new to the division after making their debut in 2022.

"I'm honoured to be appointed as the next head coach of Charlotte FC and cannot wait to start preparations for the 2024 season," Smith said.

"Throughout the interview process, it was clear that this is an ambitious club with the right ingredients for success and I'm delighted to begin a new chapter in Charlotte.

"This is a unique opportunity to be part of a project with so much potential to take to new heights in Major League Soccer.

"I'd like to thank Mr. Tepper, Zoran, Joe and the rest of the Charlotte FC leadership for entrusting me to lead this team and I look forward to meeting everyone involved with Charlotte FC."

It leaves Lampard still looking for his next venture after being interviewed by Charlotte originally.
