Both men were working on Germany's 2-0 win over Hungary on Wednesday

A body language expert has claimed Frank Lampard was in 'anger and disbelief' after Gary Lineker made a jibe at the former Chelsea star on BBC One last night.

Both men, along with Alex Scott and Thomas Frank, were covering Germany's 2-0 win over Hungary - with goals from Jamal Musiala and Ilkay Gundogan giving the hosts all three points.

As they worked in front of the famous Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, Lineker told viewers that footage of Germany fans celebrating a goal was captured from the nearby event space.

It was also revealed a large screen separated the studio from the park, with the quartet all unable to see what was actually going on outside for themselves.

Lineker said: "I wish they'd take that screen down, then we'd see all the punters.

"But if they took the screen down, they wouldn't be able to watch the game."

Lampard, who remains out of management, then responded by saying: "The back of our heads... who wouldn't turn up for that?"

And Lineker then suggested the Chelsea icon was balding by saying: "No one wants to see the back of your head these days, do they Frank? That's for sure."

It took a split second for the realisation that he'd been mocked to dawn on Lampard, who featured 106 times for his country.

His smile visibly dropped and Lineker then opted to change the subject.

And body language expert Darren Stanton, speaking to BonusCodesBets, believes Lampard was in 'anger and disbelief' at the dig.

"That was blatant. In the space of three seconds, if you play it back, you’ll see his blink rate triple," he said.

"That is a massive change in emotion, going from where he was to anger and disbelief.

"His face demonstrated a bit of a ‘wtf’ moment, really.

"He couldn’t believe his ears and it’s a combination of anger and surprise.

"That’s why we see in his facial expression that he’s trying to keep a straight face, trying not to show the fact he’s been affected.

"But the main thing is his blink rate, you can see a micro expression of surprise and then his eyebrows come together. It all happens in like a fifth of a second.

"He wasn’t happy. It’s a combination of blink rate, facial expression of anger and surprise and disbelief. That was all in a few seconds."

Lineker, for his part, has now vowed to apologise to Lampard.

He admits he himself is slightly thinning, with the 63-year-old insisting he didn't mean to offend anyone.

And he's also claimed Lampard was unlikely to be too bothered, despite Stanton's comments.

“Obviously Frank’s slightly thinning, I’m slightly thinning, and I actually meant it about everyone," he said on The Rest is Football podcast.

"But when it came out, it came out a bit wrong. And you know Frank does that thing where he smiles, and then he suddenly doesn’t smile?

“Frank’s great fun, he won’t mind.

"I must admit, when I got back to the hotel I saw it on social media and thought, ‘Oh you f*****g idiot.’

"I felt really bad, I’ll have to apologise.

"I will apologise because it wasn’t deliberate but I get how funny it was. Those things happen on live TV.”
