Yet some fans weren't happy with their decision to say '10-player', instead of '10-man'.

"There’s no way they’re using 10 player rather than 10 men now? Utter woke nonsense, it’s men playing football?" raged one user.

"This is why we are failing as a society. Allowing someone to change a harmless term such as 10 men," fumed a second.

"Happening all over the business world with people changing things that don't need changing instead of focusing on things that do.

Another said: "You mean 10 man. It was a men's match. So the correct footballing terminology is 10 man Blackburn."

"10-player? It’s called 10-men. F**k this woke nonsense," stated a fifth.

"You not allowed to say '10 man/men' then these days? How about man-marking?" were the angry words of a sixth.

And a seventh hit out by saying: "10 man, it's mens football. shove your wokeness."

It isn't the first time Sky have gone down the 'woke' route.

They previously used the term '10-man' while describing a goal from Liverpool against Wolves at the tail end of the last season.

The use of '10-player' has been regularly used in the women's game. When it comes to men's matches. most expect '10-man' to be used instead.

“There is a real togetherness in the group – to come here against a team with excellent players and a very good manager and play our way.

"We weren't as good on the ball but that's very difficult against a good team that press like they do. They stuck together, scored a great goal but I don't think they caused us many problems during the game.

"They had a lot of possession but we limited them to very few chances. It's something we have to work on and be better at, in that final third.

"I think as the game went on, if we had 11 men, we would have been better but the way they carried on and kept fighting was very pleasing."
