The Metropolitan Police have released a statement relating to the charges against a female member of Real Madrid's security staff.

A female member of Real Madrid's security staff has been charged with common assault by the Metropolitan Police following the Champions League final at the weekend.

Real clinched a record-extending 15th Champions League title after a convincing 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in the final on Saturday.

The Metropolitan police had to intervene earlier in the match when a pitch invasion took place shortly after kick-off.

And there was also an alleged altercation after the match between a member of Real Madrid's security team and a steward.

The police have now confirmed that Maria Hernandez, 52, has been charged and will appear in court later this month.

"Maria Hernandez, 52 (07.07.71) of Madrid, Spain, has been charged with common assault and will appear at Willesden Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, 18 June.

"The charge relates to an incident at the Champions League final on Saturday, 1 June where Hernandez, who is a member of Real Madrid security staff, is alleged to have assaulted a steward during an altercation at Wembley."

There were also problems before the final when more than 50 people were arrested for trying to push through ticket stalls.

The FA pumped millions into improving security at the stadium after the devastating scenes from the Euro 2020 final.

Ukranian Yevhenii Lubnenko was one of those who unsuccessfully attempted to get on the pitch at Wembley before being apprehended.

The 29-year-old pleaded guilty to going onto the playing area at a football match contrary to Section 4 of the Football (Offences) Act 1991.

He said during the hearing that it was all part of a prank to try and get about £250,000 from a Belarusian vlogger based in Moscow.

Lubnenko has now been banned from football matches in the UK for three years.

He was also fined £1,000, although that was cut to £660 due to his guilty plea.

Photographs from the match showed two pitch invaders wearing t-shirts with the name 'Mellstroy' emblazoned across their chests.
