The Norwegian striker was spotted in Malmo on Monday evening ahead of their game against IFK Gothenburg.
Haaland's decision to prioritise friendship over attending the glamorous award event, where he was a nominee, has surprised many in the football world.
The Manchester City talisman took to Instagram to share his presence at the Eleda Stadium, home to Malmo FF, just hours before the Ballon d'Or was set to be handed out.
Haaland's Instagram post featured the Malmo crest on napkins, confirming his attendance at the match.
Despite being a nominee for the Ballon d'Or, Haaland chose to be in Sweden rather than Paris.
