Manchester United could only muster a draw against Twente in the Europa League

Erik ten Hag has been told by Manchester United fans to leave immediately after a shoddy draw against Twente in the Europa League.

Christian Eriksen had put the Red Devils ahead with a screamer in the first half and it looked like it could be a comfortable evening to get their European campaign up and running.

But United faded after the break and allowed Twente to wrestle back control through Sam Lammers.

The Twente forward capitalised after Eriksen was caught napping on the ball just outside his box.

It saw Lammers race through on goal before giving Andre Onana the eyes and slotting straight past him at his near post.

United huffed and puffed, with Bruno Fernandes having a late chance to grab the winner and Harry Maguire stunned when Twente goalkeeper Lars Untervall pulled off a miraculous double save.

United could not get the winner in the end and had to settle for a point, one that Twente celebrated wildly in brilliant scenes at Old Trafford for the Dutch minnows.

It means that the Red Devils have now failed to win their opening major European match in each of the last four seasons.

And it has hardly been more cheerful in the Premier League with United 11th in the table after five games and any chance of a title battle seemingly already off.

It means that the Red Devils could be on their way to another miserable campaign - following on from last season where they crashed out of the Champions League at the group stage, finished eighth in the Premier League with their worst-ever points total but ended up with an FA Cup.

Fans are already turning on Ten Hag at this early stage of the season with one saying: "At this point Ten Hag has to go."

Another wrote: "If Ten Hag would be sacked tomorrow, then the truth is that in 2,5 years he brought zero identity or recognizable style of play at Manchester United. These are the cold hard facts."

A third said: "Ten Hag needs to be shown the door, only then will you see a lift and improvement throughout the squad.

"People are yet to acknowledge just how mediocre of a manager he is, won’t last the season and rightly so."

And this fan wrote: "Ten Hag has to go. An absolute disaster of a manager. Disastrous tactics. Disastrous substitutions. Disastrous in game management. Humiliation at Old Trafford yet again."
