Tottenham are confident of keeping hold of Ange Postecoglou despite speculation linking him with the England manager's job in the wake of Gareth Southgate's resignation on Sunday.

Southgate walked away from his role less than 48 hours on from his team's 2-1 defeat to Spain in the final of the European Championships, with goals from Nico Williams and Mikel Oyarzabal consigning them to defeat.

Postecoglou has been linked with the England job in the time since.

He steered Tottenham into Europe last season, with the north London giants finishing fifth in the Premier League table despite losing Harry Kane to Bayern Munich.

But Tottenham are confident of keeping Postecoglou, with Spurs believing he wouldn't want to leave them for England.

There are some within the club who think the only job he'd be tempted by is Manchester City. Pep Guardiola is expected to leave the Etihad Stadium in 2025, with the Spaniard also being linked with the Three Lions amid the uncertainty over his future.

Postecoglou signed a four-year contract with Tottenham last summer and is happy working in the capital.

Spurs believe he is committed to delivering success, with the team last winning a trophy all the way back in 2008.

Postecoglou was asked about the England job on Wednesday and batted away questions over whether he'd be interested.

“I was having a nap this afternoon," he said.

"I have no idea. I’m the Tottenham manager and I’m determined to bring success to this club. That’s where my focus is totally.”

Postecoglou isn't the only boss admired by England, with Eddie Howe also on their shortlist of candidates to replace Southgate.

Newcastle don't want to lose the 46-year-old, however, and would demand significant compensation if the FA decided to come calling.

Graham Potter has indicated he's ready for a return to management, with the 47-year-old on the market following his sacking from Chelsea last April.

He turned down Ajax earlier in the summer and was linked with Manchester United before the Red Devils opted to stick with Erik ten Hag.

If England go for a foreign boss, then Mauricio Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel would be interested in taking charge.

Pochettino left Chelsea in May after just one year with the club. He has long been admired by the FA, but it's unclear if that's an option they'd actively explore.

As for Tuchel, the German is a serial winner after having decorated spells with Chelsea, PSG, and Borussia Dortmund. His combative character could count against him, however.

Southgate's resignation was expected after the defeat to Spain.

There were plenty of signs this tournament would be his last, having been in charge ever since 2016.

He is rumoured to still be of interest to Manchester United, who could follow up interest if they endure a rocky start to the season under Ten Hag.

And he will apparently be targeted by ITV, who want the 53-year-old to be a pundit at the World Cup in 2026.
