The Three Lions will return to action at the European Championships on Tuesday seeking a return to winning ways

The FA could be about to release a statement saying Luke Shaw will be flying home from Euro 2024 ahead of England's clash with Slovenia on Tuesday, according to reports.

The Manchester United defender hasn't played a single minute this tournament, having last featured for his club back in February.

Shaw was named in the squad despite battling a muscle injury.

Kieran Trippier has started at left-back in his absence, with the Newcastle star defending well in matches against Serbia and Denmark.

Shaw has again trained by himself today, with the former Southampton star yet to take part in a session with the rest of his team-mates.

And Sky Sports say the FA could soon release a statement confirming the 28-year-old will be jetting home from the competition.

There are doubts over whether he'll be able to play any part in the tournament as the Three Lions look to go all the way.

Erik ten Hag, his manager at club level, previously said he expected Shaw to feature in the knockout rounds.

But with Shaw's return to action taking longer than expected, and the defender still training on his own, it looks increasingly likely he'll have to watch the action unfold from home.

The other members of England's 25-man squad have trained today.

It's been a difficult tournament for Southgate's side so far, with criticism of his tactics mounting over in Germany.

England were flat as they beat Serbia 1-0 last Sunday, with Jude Bellingham netting the only goal of the game.

Had it not been for Jordan Pickford, who made a wonderful save to deny Juventus hitman Dusan Vlahovic, the Three Lions could have thrown the game away.

And England then followed that up with a dire showing in their 1-1 draw with Denmark on Thursday.

Southgate's side are already virtually assured of a place in the round of 16 due to having four points to their name.

But England must up the ante considerably if they're to win Euro 2024 and banish the demons of three years ago, when they lost to Italy in the final.

Shaw recently opened up on his injury issues.

The United star was restricted to just 15 appearances across all competitions as the Red Devils suffered a difficult campaign under Ten Hag.

And Shaw admitted he regretted playing for United in their 2-1 win over Luton in February, the same match he suffered his injury.

"If the manager asks me to play, I'm never going to say 'no.' But I shouldn't have played [at Luton]," he said.

"It's kind of everyone's fault. Partly my fault, partly the [United] medical staff.

"I came back too quickly and I actually ended up getting another injury in my hamstring ... I did push to do everything I can to be fit for United."

Southgate also opened up on Shaw prior to the draw with Denmark.

He confirmed the United defender was still operating on his own programme as he looks to return to fitness.

“Luke won’t be involved tomorrow, no,” he said on Wednesday. “He’s actually on track to where we thought he’d be originally.

“We were hoping, a couple of days ago, we might accelerate that a little bit, but he needs a bit more volume work.

“He didn’t train with the rest of the group today, because there are days when he needs to do more than the rest of the group and there are days when he needs to recover when the others are pushing.

“He’s still in and out with the others but operating on his own programme as well.”
