The Three Lions turned the match around to go through to the quarter-finals

England star Declan Rice clashed with Slovakia manager Francesco Calzona after the Three Lions' dramatic 2-1 Euro 2024 win on Sunday night.

Gareth Southgate's side were poor for large spells in the match and fell behind in the 25th minute, with Ivan Schranz putting Slovakia in front.

When Phil Foden had a goal disallowed, it didn't seem as though it would be England's day.

But Jude Bellingham netted a stunning overhead kick to take the match to extra-time before a winner from Harry Kane sent England through.

A member of Calzona's backroom staff also seemed to push Rice in his throat.

The Arsenal midfielder was visibly annoyed and could be seen saying the words 'shut up' as players intervened.

Ivan Toney and Ezri Konsa had Rice's back, while Aaron Ramsdale dragged his Gunners team-mate away.

England, ultimately, have had the last laugh - despite being poor for large spells of the match.

They will now face Switzerland in the quarter-finals on Saturday, with the Three Lions now just three victories away from ending 58 years of hurt.

Yet England must, admittedly, be better than this.

They were seconds away from going out and there are questions that will need to be answered if they're to go all the way.

England are yet to be consistent across a single fixture and, had it not been for Bellingham, would have been facing a catastrophe. Comparisons to their 2-1 defeat to Iceland at Euro 2016 were already being made on social media.

Izzy Christiansen, speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, has expressed a belief that Slovakia were the better team.

But the former England women's star believes big players stepped up to save Southgate and send the Euro 2024 favourites through.

"Slovakia were the better team," she said.

"But there are moments in that game where you can cling onto it.

"Massive, massive moment from Jude Bellingham.

"There were 30 seconds left and he's scored a bicycle kick.

"Some big players have stepped up in the big moments when their nation needed them."

England legend Gary Neville has also reacted to the result.

The Manchester United star believes the Three Lions require more 'creativity' if they're to finally end 58 years of hurt.

Cole Palmer impressed off the bench for England, with the Chelsea star causing problems with his speed and trickery.

And Neville believes it is 'unrealistic' to expect England to win the European Championships when they're playing so inconsistently.

"Everybody in the country has been crying out for more change," he said.

"The same clamour will happen again for Cole Palmer and Trent Alexander-Arnold to come in to create more balance and more excitement.

"To think you can go through a one month tournament playing the way we are doing is unrealistic"
