England take on Brazil at Wembley in a friendly this evening

England have a host of players who are pushing to nail down their spots in Gareth Southgate's squad for this summer's European Championship.

The Three Lions take on Brazil in a friendly this evening and Southgate will likely experiment in the match at Wembley.

England have one more friendly next Tuesday against Belgium before Southgate has to name his squad for the tournament in Germany.

They will then play two more friendlies in early June against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Iceland before their Euros campaign begins.

England have three uncapped players in their squad and all of them will be hoping to make an impact in the next two games.

Jarrad Branthwaite has had a successful first full season in the Everton first team and provides a left-footed centre-back option.

The 21-year-old has made just 35 Premier League appearances but Southgate has seen enough to include him as one of his defenders.

Harry Maguire and John Stones are likely to be the first-choice pairing but both players have had injuries this term so Branthwaite must show he can step in if needed.

Kobbie Mainoo was a late inclusion in the squad but perhaps one of the most exciting call-ups.

The 18-year-old has become a regular at Manchester United in recent months, keeping out far more experienced players such as Christian Eriksen and Sofyan Amrabat.

Mainoo may not yet be a starter for his country but Southgate is clearly impressed and England aren't stocked with players in his position.

Don't be surprised to see him be handed minutes against either Brazil or Belgium.

Anthony Gordon is the third player vying to make his senior international debut.

He has excelled for Newcastle this season and overtaken Raheem Sterling for a left-wing spot.

Gordon must prove he has what it takes at international level, with the likes of Jack Grealish still to return to the fold.

Jarrod Bowen has had an exceptional campaign at West Ham but his spot this summer is still not guaranteed.

Bowen would unlikely unseat Bukayo Saka as the first-choice right-sided attacker but there is a good argument to suggest he is next in line and could start today with the Arsenal star out injured.

He is yet to score in his five England caps and will be hoping to break that duck over the next few days.

The final two players with a point to prove are Ollie Watkins and Ivan Toney.

Southgate has hinted he may only take one of the two as a second striker behind Harry Kane.

Kane won't play today due to injury so whoever starts may be a hint at who is Southgate's favourite.

The Three Lions boss admits they are different types of strikers.

He said: "Well, that is a decision we will have to make because clearly a nine is a specialist position.

"They have different attributes and that would depend a little bit on injury status in other positions in the squad and also having perhaps players that can play more than one role.

"I think both of them are aware that the opportunity is a big one. But they’re both in good form, they’ve both had time with us.

"Ollie’s been with us more recently, of course, and has done well in the games he’s played. He’s had a fabulous season for his club.

"Ivan since he’s come back into Brentford’s team has had the impact we expected him to, so they are two very, very good players."
