Liverpool left Paris with a 1-0 win against PSG against all the odds

Former Paris Saint-Germain star and Manchester United legend David Beckham could not believe his eyes after Harvey Elliott dealt a late Liverpool hammer blow against the French giants on Wednesday night.

PSG completely dominated the match against Liverpool at the Parc des Princes but could not find a way past an inspired Alisson between the posts in the visitor's net.

And after coming on for a lacklustre Mohamed Salah, Elliott wrote his name into club folklore with an unlikely goal.

Just 47 seconds after coming on and with his first touch, the Englishman was found in acres of space by Darwin Nunez from a long punt upfield.

Elliott let loose with a brilliant effort first time and, despite a big hand from Gianluigi Donnarumma, the ball nestled in the corner.

It sparked wild celebrations from the away end at the Parc des Princes as PSG looked dumbfounded.

Cameras immediately panned to Beckham, who was a guest of honour for the Ligue 1 champions.

And the former England captain, who played 14 times for PSG in 2012/13 before retiring, was left shocked by the late strike.

It comes after a dominating display from PSG throughout the first leg but Alisson played one of the best games of his life to deny them from getting on the scoresheet.

PSG finished the match with 70.5 per cent possession compared to Liverpool, who had 29.5 per cent.

Alisson made an incredible nine saves, as well as countless catches from crosses and big hands from balls into the box.

Liverpool, meanwhile, had just one shot on target - and that is all they needed as Elliott's brilliant effort saw the Reds take to Anfield a vital goal lead.

Liverpool could have found themselves not only a goal down but a man down after a tough first-half against PSG.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was in tremendous form, dancing his way through defenders and looking sharp in front of goal and managed to get on the scoresheet with a fine shot from outside the box in the opening exchanges.

However, the Georgia international was barely an inch offside after receiving the ball - seeing the goal ruled out by VAR.

Ibrahima Konate was then somewhat lucky not to get sent off after barging Bradley Barcola over as the last man.

VAR decided against a red card, though, and the Frenchman survived while his compatriot Ousmane Dembele made mincemeat of Liverpool's backline on a regular basis.

But no matter what PSG threw at Liverpool, they could not breach the one-man wall of Alisson, who admitted after the match that it was probably the best game of his life.

Liverpool will host PSG next week on Tuesday night at Anfield with a 1-0 lead which could prove crucial - with both sides among the favourites to win the Champions League.
