He was then stretchered off the field of play.
The incident took place after the linesman kept his flag down, despite an obvious offside.
That means Danilo's awful injury could have been avoided and fans on X, understandably, are far from happy.
"Linesman fails to flag for an obvious offside. The result? Danilo’s being stretchered off," raged one user.

A second fumed: "It’s an accident but would’ve been stopped if linesmen just did what they’re supposed to do."
A third said: "Oh goodness that sounds awful. I am not watching but that's so frustrating and unfair."
Another added: "Needs changing asap."
A fifth fan said: "The late flag is a terrible rule.
"I've said for years that it will eventually lead to long-term and career threatening injuries.
"For the sake of the players, just give offside as soon as you spot it. Yes there will be less goals scored, but it will be safer for the players."
And a sixth said: "The late flag is so dangerous at times, honestly feel so terrible for Forest."
