Ronaldo stated: “This is an exciting chapter for me, as I look ahead to new ventures in business."

Vaughn, who has helmed films such as Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, X-Men: First Class, the Kingsman films and 2024's Argylle, added: “Cristiano has created stories on the pitch that I could never have written, and I look forward to creating inspiring movies with him.

"He’s a real-life superhero."

News of the announcement comes at a time when Ronaldo is being linked with a move away from Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr.

Ronaldo has continued to score goals in Saudi, having bagged 94 from 104 appearances so far.

The Portugal international came close to joining Pep Guardiola's side in 2021, when it became apparent he'd be leaving Juventus.

City had expected to complete a deal for Ronaldo, having missed out on Harry Kane.

In the end, however, the football icon decided to return to United for a second stint at Old Trafford following interventions from the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson, Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra.

City are sweating on the fitness of Erling Haaland for the Club World Cup, which kicks off on June 14.
