Enzo Maresca's side are now up to fourth in the Premier League table

This summer, the common consensus is that Chelsea need a world-class striker in order to compete with the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal for Premier League title glory next season.

But Nicolas Jackson has reminded everybody of his quality, with the former Villarreal star netting the only goal of the game as the Blues beat Everton 1-0 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Chelsea have blown hot and cold this season. One moment they looked destined to qualify for the Champions League but their form, particularly over the last two months or so, has nosedived.

Yet Jackson's impressive strike against Everton will ease some of the pressure on Enzo Maresca, with the west London giants now up to fourth in the Premier League standings, while also demonstrating he's got what it takes to be their main man in the coming years ahead.

Chelsea will, of course, likely land a new marksman come the summer.

Manchester City have Erling Haaland, Arsenal are widely expected to sign Viktor Gyokores and Liverpool have Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez capable of spearheading their attack.

Jackson, currently, is no Didier Drogba. That's the level Blues fans want to see at Stamford Bridge and the forward is infuriatingly inconsistent.

But he took his goal excellently, with the 23-year-old beating Jordan Pickford with a powerful low drive that sailed into the bottom corner.

It was Jackson's first goal since December.

And it ended up being a big one, with Chelsea managing to see out the showdown and claim all three points in their quest to qualify for next season's Champions League.

Everton have been remarkably improved ever since David Moyes' Hollywood homecoming, with the Toffees representing a tough challenge on Saturday.

But Chelsea will be relieved to have claimed victory, with Enzo Maresca's side now up to fourth.

In truth, Saturday's match wasn't a classic.

Chelsea dominated the ball but struggled to create chances, with Jackson's moment of magic ultimately the difference between the two teams.

Maresca and his players are, however, unlikely to care.

While Jackson was the matchwinnner, credit must also go to Chelsea midfielder Romeo Lavia.

LATEST SPORTS NEWS:

The former Southampton star has been plagued by injuries ever since arriving at the club back in the summer transfer window of 2023.

Lavia was making his first appearance for Chelsea in a month but marshalled the midfield, with the 21-year-old able to win his battle against Idrissa Gueye.

In a sweet moment, the young Belgian was given a standing ovation by Blues fans after coming off in the second half. Should he stay fit, he should have a big future at the club.

Everton should, potentially, have got a draw. Abdoulaye Doucoure missed a big chance to draw Moyes' men level, only to see a header sail wide in the first half.

Moyes will be unhappy to lose but enthused nonetheless, with Everton continuing to look far tougher to beat than they did during Sean Dyche's team in the dugout.

Chelsea are next in action against Djurgarden in the UEFA Conference League on Thursday (8pm). As for Everton, they're primed to lock horns with Ipswich next Saturday (3pm).
