The Portugal international was left frustrated by Sunday's match

Bruno Fernandes was caught on camera having a meltdown as Manchester United lost 4-1 to Newcastle at St James' Park on Sunday.

Sandro Tonali, a brace from Harvey Barnes and late strike from Bruno Guimaraes gave the Toon all three points - with Alejandro Garnacho's first half effort ultimately to no avail.

Towards the end of the match, United boss Ruben Amorim opted to withdraw Fernandes.

Yet Sky Sports caught the Portugal international having a meltdown on the touchline following his substitution.

Fernandes was seen looking on with disgust before sitting back in his chair and venting his frustrations after watching Guimaraes' goal go in.

The former Sporting Lisbon star has often been United's saviour but fans on social media believe he should leave the fallen giants as they continue to languish far behind their rivals.

"Bruno Fernandes please make that move. You deserve much more better," said one user.

A second stated: "I feel bad for Bruno Fernandes. I hope Madrid comes for him."

Another said: "Bruno Fernandes better run for his life and hand in that transfer request."

And a fourth said: "Bruno Fernandes is just wasting his career at United."

Amorim looked a frustrated figure at full time, with his team continuing to sit 14th in the Premier League table.

The 39-year-old responded to the defeat by saying: "Many mistakes, they were stronger in the second balls and are a better team. We did a lot of mistakes which makes it harder to win a game.

"It’s a bit of everything – it’s hard to point at one thing that goes wrong.

"It’s really hard to win at top teams when you make mistakes to help them to score.

"We can do so much better. Let’s focus on Thursday, all of the mistakes we made today we cannot do on Thursday."

Amorim has struggled to improve United since arriving in November. He insists he will keep working hard, however, and doesn't care about the criticism from outside.

"I understand the criticism, I don’t care. Nothing is worse that losing games," he continued.

"People can say whatever they want to say. I don’t want to defend myself as if you look at our position in the table, it says it all.

"Thursday is really important so I don’t care what people say. Losing games is the hardest part of this job.

"We have a chance to get Champions League but it’s going to be really hard. We need to focus on that.
