The Brazilian appeared to slip as he tackled Noussair Mazraoui - but his yellow card was then upgraded to a red, much to his dismay.
Fans on X were left astonished by the decision, with one user writing: "Never a red."
A second fumed 'not once did VAR even acknowledge that he SLIPPED', while a third hit out by saying: "That’s 100 per cent accidental. If it was on purpose then yes a red. But he literally slipped. Disgraceful."
Another blasted: "Shocking refereeing."

Prior to Hojlund's goal, Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho missed big chances for the visitors as they looked to get back on level terms.
Fernandes squandered a glorious opportunity to level in the second half but sliced his effort wide.
As for Garnacho, the Argentina international went close with a powerful low drive and was also denied by Kepa Arrizabalaga in the Bournemouth goal.

He will, however, be pleased with his side's fighting spirit as they avoided another disappointing defeat.
It has been a campaign to forget for the fallen giants. However, they may be able to achieve redemption if they're able to win the Europa League for a second time - having previously done so under another Portuguese boss, Jose Mourinho, in 2017.
