The 63-year-old covered the match on Tuesday night

Fans have blasted Gary Linker and called for the BBC to axe the 63-year-old for comments made during Spain's 2-1 win over France on Tuesday night.

Luis de la Fuente's side made the final of Euro 2024, with Lamine Yamal and Dani Olmo both on target.

Their goals came after Randal Kolo Muani had put France ahead, with Spain just one win away from winning their first major trophy in 12 years.

During the match, Lineker said it had been 'all about the left' this week in France, referring to the recent elections in the country.

But fans aren't happy with the BBC presenter, with some believing the broadcaster should axe him for what they perceive to be 'political' comments.

"Gary Lineker with a pathetic political point there at the end. @BBCSport get rid of this clown," were the words of one user.

"Gary Lineker just before the second half started was again going on about politics BBC needs to sack him now!" said a second.

"Gary Lineker getting his left wing politics in on @BBCSport. He gets away with everything, with immunity," were the words of a third.

A fourth said: "Trust Lineker to shoehorn in about the left in France during half time in the France v Spain game."

And a fifth said: "Lineker couldn't help himself could he, he had to have a little political snipe."

It isn't the first time Lineker has caused controversy during Euro 2024.

He previously called England 's**t' after a 1-1 draw with Denmark, with Harry Kane and Gareth Southgate then forced to answer questions on the matter.

He was condemned by fans after wildly celebrating England's victory over Switzerland on Saturday, too.

And Lineker also sparked a backlash by appearing to wear clothes from his Next clothing line, which is against BBC regulations.

The BBC says it is "committed" to achieving due impartiality in all output.

They say it is "fundamental to our reputation, our values and the trust of audiences".

The BBC adds impartiality must be "adequate and appropriate to the output, taking account of the subject and nature of the content, the likely audience expectation and any signposting that may influence that expectation."

Regarding Euro 2024, meanwhile, Spain's win over France has put them through to the final.

England face the Netherlands in the second semi-final, with that match due to be played on Wednesday night.

The Three Lions are expected to make just one change to the side that beat Switzerland over the weekend.

Marc Guehi is primed to come in for Ezri Konsa, despite the Aston Villa star impressing at the back.

And Kieran Trippier is expected to keep his place at left wing-back, despite Luke Shaw coming off the bench last time out.

Shaw has missed the bulk of the tournament due injury.

But Gareth Southgate reportedly has doubts over his fitness for a 90-minute match.

Jordan Pickford will start in goal, behind a back three consisting of Guehi, John Stones and Kyle Walker.
