The Champions League tie between Bayern Munich and Benfica was delayed by 15 minutes after a fire in the city's metro as well as disruption on the route to the stadium.
Vincent Kompany's side are in desperate need of a win in the Champions League after picknig up just three points from their opening three matches.
Results have left them just 28th in the table and at risk of being knocked out of the competition unless results improve.
A home match against Benfica is seen as an opportunity for Bayern to bounce back in Europe.

However, the match was delayed as fans struggled to make it to the stadium in time for kick-off.
The Bundesliga club issued a statement an hour before the scheduled kick-off that an issue with the train line to the Allianz Arena was causing disruption.
There were also reports of a fire on the subway caused by pyrotechnics, leaving thousands of fans forced to find alternative ways to travel.
Bayern confirmed on social media that the match would not kick-off until 8.15pm GMT.
They said: "Due to the difficulty of many visitors getting to the stadium, kick-off will be delayed by 15 minutes.
"The signal box malfunction has now been resolved."
The match eventually got underway on time, but fans were seemingly still making their way into the ground after their delay.
While Bayern have not been able to get going in Europe, they've set the benchmark in the Bundesliga.

He currently tops the goalscoring charts in the Champions League too, largely due to his four-goal salvo against Dinamo Zagreb in September.
The 31-year-old is back in action for his country next week when England face Greece and the Republic of Ireland in their final Nations League group matches.
