Hungary boss Marco Rossi has revealed Barnabas Varga will require surgery on his cheek after he collided with Angus Gunn during their Euro 2024 clash with Scotland last night.

The 29-year-old striker was forced out of the match on a stretcher after suffering a head injury, with his team-mates rushing to his aid.

Hungary players formed a protective barrier around Varga, who was then stretchered off by medics.

It was a scary moment during the match but Rossi's side were able to regain their composure, with Kevin Csoboth then bagging a dramatic late winner.

Speaking after the game, the Hungary boss provided an update on Varga.

He said the 29-year-old will require surgery after suffering a cheek fracture, while also saying he's out of the competition.

And Rossi also hit out at medics for 'arriving a bit late'.

“What I heard from the players is that Barney looked unconscious," said Rossi.

"Everybody was really worried about his condition, and worried that the doctors arrived a bit late.

"Probably they didn’t realise it was a dangerous situation.

“We can say now that Barney is not under any kind of risks. "Probably he will be operated on in the coming hours because he suffered a fracture here [points to cheek], but he’s healthy.

“Of course if we will go through the competition he will not be any more part of the team.”

Hungary defender Milos Kerkez has also spoken out after the result at the Stuttgart Arena.

Taking to social media, the Bournemouth star said Varga would be 'alright'.

“Proud of everyone and thankful for the support in the stadium and the country!" he said.

"Our brother will be alright because he is strong.”

Man of the match Roland Sallai added: “It was a terrible moment to see him like that.

"He’ll have to go through a minor operation, but we cross our fingers for him that he can return.

"Naturally, it was a terrible incident. Of course, we were fighting for him in the remaining minutes and this win is dedicated to him.”

Rossi, meanwhile, has admitted his side were fortunate to beat Scotland.

He says his team relied on 'luck' to claim all three points.

"We must wait for the other results. We did what was possible with a bit of luck in the final moments," he said.

"We had another big chance when we hit the post but we gave Scotland some opportunities as well.

"They managed more possession but we were able to cover, especially in the centre, leaving them to the sides and then at the end we were ok.

"The luck in football, like in life, is important. When we started preparing for the Euros luck was not on our side but we have to say the luck came back to us at the right time.

"I know my boys, I know that they are really strong. I have to say the performance was weak in the first half but not in the second.

"In the game against Germany we played really well but luck went against us. They'd probably have won anyway because they are Germany.

"At the end the result is fair. We cannot say we didn't deserve to win."
