The north London giants were too strong for their Ligue 1 rivals in Tuesday night's Champions League clash

Arsenal star Kai Havertz is closing in on a record set by Robin van Persie after his heroics for the club in their 2-0 Champions League win over PSG on Tuesday night.

The Germany international scored for the sixth home game in a row as the Gunners picked up all three points.

Havertz headed Arsenal in front in the 20th minute as he continued his brilliant start to the season.

And Bukayo Saka then netted the Gunners' second goal 15 minutes later, with Mikel Arteta's side eventually cruising to victory.

When Arsenal signed Havertz from Chelsea back in the summer transfer window of 2023, eyebrows were raised.

After all, he'd often struggled for consistency during his time at Stamford Bridge under managers such as Thomas Tuchel, Frank Lampard and Graham Potter.

Havertz, admittedly, took a little while to get going at Arsenal.

Yet he became a key player for the north London giants over the course of last season and, so far this term, has been simply unplayable.

Only one player has scored in more successive matches at the Emirates than Havertz.

That was Robin van Persie, who bagged in seven home matches in a row before controversially leaving to join Manchester United back in 2012.

Arsenal have arguably lacked a truly world-class centre-forward in the years since.

But Havertz, after years of being a 'what if' player, now appears to be on song and ready to lead their attack for many years to come.

The 25-year-old won't have too long to wait as he looks to draw level with Van Persie by scoring in seven home matches in a row.

Arsenal are next in action against Southampton on Saturday (3pm).

But with the Saints struggling in the top flight, Havertz will undoubtedly fancy his chances of finding the net once again.

Arteta, meanwhile, lavished praise on Havertz after the match and praised his power and footballing intelligence as he continued his sublime run of form.
