City had a fine week after a 3-1 wins over Chelsea and Club Brugge to put them into the top four of the Premier League and qualify for the Champions League play-offs.
But this was a huge step back for Guardiola's men, while Mikel Arteta's dream of keeping up with league leaders Liverpool remains alive.
So, how did Arsenal get on against City? Here are GB News' player ratings.
David Raya - 8
Sensational stop in the first-half to deny Josko Gvardiol from a corner and made another fine save before the half ended as Arsenal looked to be teetering.
Myles Lewis-Skelly - 10
Where have Arsenal been hiding this kid? Easily his best performance, defending expertly against Haaland, tenacious going forward and what a goal - big things to come from this 18-year-old.

Gabriel Magalhaes - 6
City might have looked the more attacking team at times but Arteta knows he can rely on his defensive duo against the best of the best. Gabriel put on another assured display.
William Saliba - 6
The perfect foil to Gabriel, making them one of the best defence partnerships in world football. His one lapse of concentration was cruelly punished by Haaland, who stole in ahead of him to score a header.
Jurrien Timber - 5
Looked shaky throughout the contest and earned himself a booking with Savinho and Omar Marmoush proving too tricky for him. Great potential but some way to go.

Thomas Partey - 7
Kept Arsenal's midfield ticking over and always showed for the ball when building play. His goal straight after Haaland's proved decisive to make sure there was no comeback from City.
Declan Rice - 6
Sometimes guilty of not getting the ball up the pitch quick enough but when he did, it worked a treat as he set up the excellent Lewis-Skelly for his first Arsenal goal.
Martin Odegaard - 7
Scored the opening goal after a defensive mishap and always looks so assured on the ball, showcasing brilliant vision. A decent captain's display.

Leandro Trossard - 6
Nice touch to help score the first goal but ultimately, not enough from the Belgian. City's backline was there for the taking, particularly Matheus Nunes out of position at right-back.
Kai Havertz - 6
Guilty of one of the worst misses in recent history but made up for his error with a fine finish after the break to kill off the tie. Plenty of work to do for the frontman but on the right path.
Gabriel Martinelli - 6
Scored in the first half but was ruled offside, a position he found himself on several occasions. Came alive after the break to set up Havertz with City's defence absymal throughout.
