ANALYSIS: The north London side are stuck in a rut and there seems to be only one outcome

When Tottenham went ahead against Leicester on Sunday through Richarlison, virtually everybody expected Ange Postecoglou's side to ease some of the pressure on his shoulders by claiming all three points.

However, after quickfire goals from Jamie Vardy and Bilal El Khannouss, it looks increasingly likely that the Australian will soon be relieved of his duties over in north London.

Yes, Tottenham are plagued by injuries at present. Dominic Solanke, Guglielmo Vicario, Brennan Johnson, Destiny Udogie, Micky van de Ven and Timo Werner are just a few players currently unavailable for selection, with James Maddison another on the sidelines.

But, still, they have to be better than this. Injuries are frustrating but they are part and parcel of the game. You have to adapt - otherwise you get left behind.

That's what is happening with Tottenham now. They are regressing with virtually each passing game. If other teams weren't so abject, they'd be sucked into a relegation battle.

Tottenham went into the game hoping to win their first Premier League match since their 5-0 drubbing of Southampton on December 15.

That statistic, along, tells the story. Since that victory they have lost to Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, Newcastle, Arsenal, Everton and now Leicester in the top flight - while also drawing with Wolves at home.

For a team of their size and stature, it isn't good enough. They are 15th in the league table. To make matters worse, even fierce rivals West Ham are above them. Even Manchester United, who are so poor under Ruben Amorim, have two points more.

Leicester have been insipid all season long. Their problems started under Steve Cooper and have continued ever since Ruud van Nistelrooy was given the keys to the King Power Stadium.

But they were deserving of their win on Sunday, digging deep with a fighting spirit that was so clearly lacking among the home side.

The buck has to stop with Postecoglou. For all their injury issues, the Australian seems out of answers.

His demeanor has been worsening in recent weeks, with the former Celtic boss snapping at reporters and journalists in pre-match and post-match interviews.

But Postecoglou has to front up and take responsibility. Ipswich, Wolves and Leicester - who make up three of the bottom four places in the Premier League table - have all taken points off them at home this season.

Of course, bigger and better managers have failed as Spurs in recent years.

Jose Mourinho arrived with a point to prove and plenty of trophies in the bank in 2019 but he couldn't get this team up to scratch, even if he did do well enough by guiding them to the final of the Carabao Cup.

Likewise Antonio Conte. For everything he's won, Tottenham didn't win enough under him. The Italian, like Mourinho, couldn't work his magic in north London.

Yet neither man - nor Nuno Espirito Santo, who has rebuilt his managerial reputation at Nottingham Forest - dragged Tottenham into a mess as big as this one.

Nobody likes to see a manager go. They work hard behind the scenes, grafting in the early hours of the morning and dead of night, always on the hunt for improvement for both themselves and their players.

But Postecoglou is out of his depth. Daniel Levy has no other choice, not after this shambles. The axe, it seems, will fall soon enough.
