Alan Shearer fought back tears after Newcastle United's Carabao Cup triumph as thoughts turned to his late father.
The club legend revealed his emotional moment on the Rest is Football Podcast after watching his old side secured glory.
"I must admit, I had a tear or two [in my eye] when the final whistle went because I thought of my old man," Shearer said.
He was at Wembley alongside his son Will, daughter Chloe and her boyfriend to witness the historic victory.

"We'll give him a little nod," he added poignantly.
Newcastle United ended their 70-year wait for a domestic trophy with a 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Wembley.
The Magpies' triumph on Sunday sparked scenes of jubilation among thousands of travelling Geordies.
Shearer was among the ecstatic fans celebrating the historic moment when the final whistle blew.

The win marks Newcastle's first major domestic silverware since 1955.
Dan Burn scored Newcastle's first goal in the memorable final that will go down in club history.
Shearer's father had witnessed Newcastle's 1969 Fairs Cup victory, their last major trophy before Sunday's win.
"He was lucky enough, he went to the '69 final when they won the Fairs Cup, so he sampled it a little bit," Shearer explained.
The Newcastle icon revealed his father's passion for the club continued until his final days.
"Even in his last few days, he was on about Newcastle and how he wanted them to do well and win the trophy and what have you," he said.
Shearer's father passed away last year following a battle with cancer.
Burn, who netted Newcastle's crucial first goal, described the surreal feeling of victory.

"I don't want to go to sleep because I feel like I am dreaming," he said in a post-match interview.
"I knew Alexis [Mac Allister] wasn't looking so I could get a jump on him," Burn explained.
"As soon as I headed it, I knew it was in. I don't get many so at least I saved it for a big occasion.
"I feel strange the minute. It is hard to put into words."

Newcastle will parade the Carabao Cup trophy around the city on Saturday, March 29.
