The 56-year-old hasn't been seen in public since 2013

Formula One legend Michael Schumacher has signed a crash helmet for charity with the assistance of his wife Corinna.

The seven-time world champion has not been seen in public since suffering serious brain damage in a skiing accident in December 2013.

With his wife's guiding hand, Schumacher has added his initials 'MS' to the helmet that will be auctioned to raise funds for Sir Jackie Stewart's Race Against Dementia charity, reports the Daily Mail.

The helmet bears the signatures of every living Formula One world champion, completing a unique collection of motorsport history.

It features the distinctive Royal Stewart Tartan design, the same pattern worn by Sir Jackie Stewart during his illustrious career in the 1960s and 1970s.

Stewart claimed three world titles during his time in Formula One.

The white helmet will be sold to raise vital funds for Race Against Dementia, a charity established by the Scottish racing legend.

The auction represents a rare opportunity for collectors to acquire a truly historic piece of motorsport memorabilia.

The white helmet will be revealed at Sunday's Bahrain Grand Prix, giving fans their first glimpse of this remarkable item.

Stewart, now 85, will also take part in the event with a special exhibition lap.

He will drive his 1973 championship-winning Tyrrell around the Bahrain circuit prior to the race.

Stewart said: "It is wonderful that Michael could sign the helmet in this worthy cause a disease for which there is no cure. His wife helped him, and it completed the set of every single champion still with us."

Race Against Dementia was established by Stewart after his wife of 53 years, Lady Helen, began suffering from dementia.

In a heartbreaking BBC interview last week, Stewart revealed there were moments when she no longer recognised him.

"Where's Jackie?" she asked him as she got up for dinner.

Schumacher was placed in a medically induced coma following his accident in Meribel in the French Alps in December 2013.

He is now cared for by his wife Corinna and a team of medical staff at their home on Lake Geneva.
