The German continues to live away from the spotlight

F1 fans have sent messages of support to Michael Schumacher as the German turns 55 today.

The Formula One icon is set to spend his birthday surrounded by his loved ones as he continues to recover from a devastating skiing accident.

Back in 2013, Schumacher hit his head on a rock while skiing in the French Alps.

He has lived away from the spotlight in the years since, with wife Corinna admitting he's 'different' following the tragic incident.

And F1 fans have now sent messages of support to Schumacher as he turns 55.

"Happy Birthday Michael Schumacher, We miss you," said one user on X.

A second said: "Happy Birthday Michael Schumacher, many many happy returns."

A third said: Happy 55th Birthday to the GOAT, Michael Schumacher! #KeepFightingMichael."

"Happy 55th birthday, Michael Schumacher!#KeepFightingMichael," said a fourth user.

A fifth sent Schumacher a message saying" Miss this guy so much on the track. I wish Michael Schumacher get well soon."

And a sixth stated: "Just got emotional about Michael Schumacher I hope he has a greatest birthday today."

No updates on Schumacher's condition and health are expected today.

His family prefer to keep details on the F1 icon secret in order to give him the privacy he needs.

December 29 marked 10 years since the accident that changed Schumacher's life.

It was reported on the day that he'd been driven round in a Mercedes car to try and stimulate his brain with familiar sounds.

Schumacher spent three years racing with the Silver Arrows between 2010 and 2012.

However, it appears hope of a miraculous recovery is continuing to fade as time goes on.

Schumacher's brother, Ralf, recently said he missed his sibling.

“I miss my Michael from back then,” Ralf told Bild.
